The medical humanitarian organization MAGNA was established in 2001 in Slovakia in order to provide health and social assistance to children and their families in need. Since 2002, we have created and still run dozens of health and social projects to help children and their families in need. Our activities are respected and appreciated internationally as well. MAGNA considers transparency and efficiency in the implementation of its activities and in the management of funds as the most important principles in its work. Since its beginning, MAGNA minimizes the administrative costs and costs associated with fundraising to the minimum amount possible. Every year, MAGNA in Slovakia undergoes an independent financial audit. We obtain financial and material resources for our activities mainly from individual and corporate donors. We also work with various foundations on our projects and some projects are funded in cooperation with the UN. Donors who contribute and support our activities financially receive regular reports on the spending of their funds.

Each MAGNA project has its detailed budget, which is reviewed on a regular basis during the year. Project managers monitor project budgets throughout the year to ensure that all operations are carried out responsibly and in accordance with the project objectives. All budgets are controlled and subject to approval by the MAGNA Board of Directors. The implementation of humanitarian projects is the responsibility of the MAGNA Operations Section in Slovakia. Every year MAGNA in Slovakia undergoes an independent financial audit. For the transparency of our donors around the world, we combine the accounts of all our offices internationally. The result is a thorough and transparent picture providing the full scope of our activities.

Providing health and social assistance to victims of conflicts and crises is a top priority for MAGNA. Suffering from infectious diseases that are neglected by local governments is another major area of ​​MAGNA's program focus. We aim to provide adequate treatment and care to people affected by diseases such as HIV / AIDS, malaria, cholera and others. It also responds to the needs of people who are excluded from access to basic health services and we also help disaster victims. MAGNA's decision to intervene in times of crisis is based solely on our independent assessment and needs of people, never on political, economic or religious interests. Projects are described in detail before they start and are evaluated throughout their duration. Clearly defined quantitative as well as qualitative targets are revised where necessary. The duration of our intervention is determined solely on the basis of these needs, which are defined and reviewed during the mission. Projects and needs are assessed on an ongoing basis through a standardized data collection system, plus ongoing studies. MAGNA is committed to ensuring that its addressees actually receive its assistance. For this reason, we insist that our field workers must have access to healthcare facilities, communicate with people on the spot, and therefore independently assess the need for assistance. MAGNA implements and operates projects on its own. In rare cases, we can also provide financial support to other humanitarian organizations, community groups, or healthcare facilities that we work with in a particular area.

Please keep in mind that MAGNA uses part of the private donations received, including those raised for specific projects, for fundraising and administrative cost; however, we always strive to keep these costs to a minimum, with at least 80% of your donations being allocated to the projects in the field. If we are unable to use your donation in accordance with your wishes (for example, if the project is closed or the donations exceed the needs for a particular project), we will contact you and discuss further use of your donation to help people in need. MAGNA will never extend the intervention for the sole purpose of consuming the allocated funds for a specific project. Between 2003 and 2018, MAGNA allocated at least 90% of the funding received to humanitarian projects.

Through our reports and publications, we inform donors about our activities and the situations we are in and we firmly believe in the highest form of your confidence in us in distributing your general contributions to help where it is most needed. However, if you decide to dedicate your contribution to supporting MAGNA projects in a particular area, we will honor your choice. In this case, the donor has the opportunity to contact our funadraising department and agree on how to use his contribution. The minimum amount of a one-time or regular donation is EUR 3. The maximum amount is unlimited; it depends solely on your decision and your financial possibilities. Regardless of the amount donated, we honor and value each donor equally.

Every donor receives messages about who, where and how he / she is helping. Through the latest reports, short videos or stories from MAGNA hospitals published on our website, you have the opportunity to learn about the current situation from where MAGNA health care professionals are providing help.

In addition to one-time gifts and regular donations, you can also help us by talking about the work of MAGNA workers among your friends and acquaintances.
